The 2015 MLB Playoffs are upon us. One of the questions frequently asked is, "If a handicapper had a great regular season, is that a sign they will also do well in the playoffs?
My response would be that in general, there is little correlation between regular season success and playoffs. Just because a handicapper had a great regular season, I would not automatically back him during the playoffs. It certainly would make sense to back him since he has performed so well, but this is not automatic. I can think of more than a few times where a capper dominated the regular season and then got smushed during the post season.
Not to mention, the playoffs can be a second wind to an analysist. It can be a chance for a new beginning. My advice is to look to each handicapper's past post season success or failures before enrolling in a Playoff package. If they have put together 3 or 4 nice campaigns, then you may wish to back them. If their performances are hit and miss, then you might want to pass or go lightly. One thing for sure, the playoffs are unique and it does take experience and a specific type of thinking to win during this stretch.
I would set aside a small bankroll and play within that frame work. Never play more than 10% of your bankroll on any one playoff game and never risk more than 20% of your total bankroll in any one day. Also never spend more for a handicapper's Playoff package than what you would play on a regular winner. Make sure that when you enroll with a handicapper, he releases enough plays to allow you the opportunity to cover his service and still be successful. If he historically has say 10 plays during the playoffs and charges say $300, what must be your end result to make your investment make sense? Often during the playoffs I recommend buying plays individually. 'Less is more' is not a bad strategy to have, especially during the MLB playoffs. You definately do not want to start chasing if you get off to a bad start. It always takes dicipline to win in gambling and when it comes to the post seasons, this is even more crucial. The handicapper and the player both must execute discipline to make that union a winning team.
